Three Ways to Hold a Flower
Dogwood blossoms follow the branching lines of woody stems. Potted Petunias builds its flowers around solid containers. Sunflower Poppy Bunch gathers different flower shapes into one lively bouquet. The supporting structures are different, even before you begin comparing the petals.
Start with the lightest blossoms. Some are surrounded by darker leaves, while others merge with pale background washes. Those changes can make a flower feel distinct or part of a larger cloud of color. The flowers do not all need the same amount of detail to belong in the same painting.
Choose a Color to Follow
Pick one pink, yellow or violet passage and find its nearest echo elsewhere in the picture. A repeated color can link separate blooms or draw the eye across a gap. Then switch paintings and repeat the exercise. The garden becomes a conversation between shapes and colors, as well as a collection of familiar plants.
