Objects Make a Gathering
A tabletop creates a small stage. In Afternoon Family Tea, a vase, blue pitcher, cup and pastries sit close enough to feel part of the same occasion. Red Bing Cherries on Linen Tablecloth uses a jug, flowers, cherries and patterned cloth to spread the arrangement across the picture.
The Gruene porch takes the table outdoors. Potted flowers meet daylight beside a window, and the green table becomes a strong shape within the scene. The three works move between an intimate still life and a view of a place without losing their attention to ordinary objects.
Read the Spaces Between
Instead of counting objects, look at the gaps around them. A light space beside a dark pitcher can be as important as the pitcher itself. Follow the line of the tabletop, then the stems above it. These small directions help the arrangement feel settled, lively or gently off balance.
